Pre-Engineered Steel Building

You've probably heard the radio advertisements about how you can build your new commercial building for half the
cost and in half the time of conventional construction.  Well it's true.  Many commercial buildings can take
advantageof the state of the art design and manufacturing practices of modern metal building manufactures.

Most people think of warehouses when hearing "pre-engineered metal building"(PEMB).  Smart business owners,
developers, and designers have learned that exterior wall finishes that are attractive, appealing, and beautiful can be
installed in place of the standard exterior metal walls.  Metal buildings can support masonry, stucco, stone, GFRC,
tilt-up concrete, insulated panels, or any attractive combination of these various finishes.

The roofing system is also very flexible.  It can be standard screw down metal. standing seam with concealed
fasteners, or any type of membrane over B-deck with rigid insulation.

There is also great flexibility in the way your building can be insulated. You can choose from fiberglass batt, rigid
foam, sprayed foam or cellulose or insulated steel panel in thicknesses from 1 to 6 inches.

Another facet of the PEMB is the flexibility of the design geometry.  A building can be gabled, single slope, hip or a
combination.  There are no limits on width or length.  The height can be as low as 10 feet up to 40 or 50 feet. The
primary structure can be free span or multi-span.

If you use tilt-up concrete or masonry exterior walls the steel columns can be replaced by utilizing the structural
capabilities of those components, thus reducing the cost of the structure.

If your construction site is in a high snow or wind, or seismic load area, the design can be adjusted to maximize the
efficiency of the project.  For example:  A single slope building may be less expensive in a high snow load area.  A
steeper gabled roof is more cost efficient in a high wind area than a lower pitch roof.

If your building requires a second floor, a mezzanine can be included in the building order, and erected by the same
crew that erects the rest of the building.  The mezzanine can be constructed of steel joists and deck with a poured
concrete floor, or it could be steel joists prepared for attachment of plywood floor, or it could be just post and
beams to support conventional engineered wood joists and deck.  These types of mezzanines give great flexibility to
the space below, (no bearing walls to work around), and  noise from upstairs traffic is minimized.
